U.S. Rep. Elise M. Stefanik, R-Schuylerville, is co-sponsoring the Opioid Workforce Act.
The act will provide support from Medicare to 1,000 medical school residencies focused on the opioid crisis. Ms. Stefanik joins fellow Republican Rep. Susan Brooks and Democratic Reps. Brad Schneider and Ann Kuster in introducing the proposed legislation.
“Every single person knows of a family that has been devastated by the opioid crisis, and deaths related to overdoses have outpaced car accidents as the number-one killer of young people,” Ms. Stefanik was quoted as saying in a news release. “The number of health care professionals focused on the treatment and prevention of opioid abuse directly translates to the number of people who can be saved.”
