JOHNSTOWN — Republican U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik — fresh off being named President Donald Trump’s honorary New York State chair — spent Friday afternoon in Fulton County.
The 35-year-old congresswoman, representing the county’s 21st Congressional District, spent the early afternoon having lunch at Partner’s Pub in Johnstown.
She also visited and toured medical device firm Epimed at the Crossroads Business Park in Gloversville.
Stefanik ended her afternoon in the county touring Electro-Metrics Corp. — a high-tech antenna and satellite company located on Enterprise Road in the Johnstown Industrial Park. The company first moved into the park in the 1990s.
Electro-Metrics officials — Chairman Les Apple and President/COO Paul Sikora — took the congresswoman on the tour and explained some details of the company. Also on the tour were Johnstown Town Supervisor Jack Wilson and Gloversville Councilman-at-Large Bill Rowback.
Apple said the company — employing about 38 people — did $6.3 million worth of sales in 2019.
“Last year we had an exciting year,”Apple said.“It’s a credit to the people who work here.”
Apple told Stefanik that Electro-Metrics, which has many U.S. Department of Defense contracts, appreciated her coming to see what the facility has to offer.
“I’m so excited to tour here,”Stefanik said.“I’m here to learn what we can do to support you for workforce development.”
Electro-Metrics Corp. is a leading designer, producer and integrator of antennas, sensors and systems for broadband RF communications and testing. The machine shop and fabrication division manufactures precision machined products and provides contract manufacturing services. The Electro-Metrics manufacturing facilities support both RF and Precision Fabrication divisions.
Stefanik was shown various components of high-tech machinery, generators, antennas and satellites that the company produces.
“We do very little marketing because we just don’t have the resources,”said Sikora.
Electro-Metrics does business worldwide, the tour was told.
“We manufacture a lot of kits for the government,”Sikora said.
Some employees told Stefanik they appreciated what she was doing for New York state and the Trump Administration.
Stefanik’s 21st Congressional District seat expires in 2020. Democrat Tedra Cobb of Canton — unsuccessful in the last election to unseat Stefanik — has announced she is running again for Congress to represent the 12-county North Country seat
In the open hearing of the House Intelligence Committee’s impeachment inquiry in November, Stefanik made a national name for herself as she questioned many rules she felt were wrong and was outspoken in her questioning of procedures and witnesses.
Stefanik this week was selected as a Trump campaign honorary New York State chair, the Trump campaign announced. She will work to advance Trump’s agenda in the Empire State. She said she is proud to represent New York’s 21st District, whose voters overwhelmingly favored Trump in 2016.
“I’m honored to have been chosen as a New York state chair for the Trump campaign in 2020,”said Stefanik.“President Trump’s agenda of creating jobs, strengthening our military, securing our borders, negotiating better trade deals, and lowering crime rates has historic support in the 21st Congressional District and across Upstate New York. I’m looking forward to working with his campaign to deliver another decisive victory in my district. President Trump’s record of results will win handily over far-Left radical resistance in November.”
