WASHINGTON DC, (WRGB) Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is urging the Trump administration to bring a case against China involving their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The letter, sent to Secretary Pompeo and Attorney General Barr and cosigned by Stefanik is asking for a case to be brought against China to the International Court of Justice.
“The Communist Party of China knowingly withheld critical information on the threat of COVID-19, and thousands of people have died because of their attempt to cover-up the virus,” said Congresswoman Stefanik. “I am joining my colleagues in urging Secretary Pompeo and Attorney General Barr to bring a case against China to the ICJ. The International Health Regulations – which China agreed to abide by – require countries to provide timely information to the WHO about public health emergencies in order to prevent global pandemics. China must be held accountable for the devastating loss of life they have caused by lying and intentionally suppressing critical facts needed to combat COVID-19 early on in this pandemic.”
The letter is calling on China to account for three weeks before they outbreak, and continued saying the China continued to make false statements saying that large gatherings were safe one month after the outbreak.
Stefanik has been vocal in the past demanding action and accountability against China. Back in March she called on a resolution, demanding China to pay back all nations impacted and also accuses the Chinese Communist Party’s of lacking in response to how coronavirus was handled before emerging as a pandemic.
Back in January, she was selected to be an honorary New York State campaign chair for the Trump campaign.
